How the analysis works
No AI guessing. We fetch the most recent public reviews from Apple's customer-reviews feed (through our own small server function, because Apple's feed often answers empty on the first try and needs retries; it stores nothing about you), then your browser does the analysis: (1) match 1–2 star reviews against a published list of complaint themes (crashes, bugs, login, ads, pricing, performance, updates, support, data loss, notifications, UI, privacy); (2) count 2–3 word phrases that appear in at least two negative reviews and much more often in negative than in 4–5 star reviews; (3) pick out sentences with request cues such as "I wish", "please add", "should", "would love" (Chinese reviews: matching Chinese keywords such as 闪退, 广告, 会员, 希望, 建议). Every theme comes with real quotes so you can check it.
FAQ
Is it really free?
Yes. The single-app analysis of the latest ~100 reviews is free with no signup. The multi-competitor, multi-country report will be paid.
Where do the reviews come from?
Apple's public App Store customer-reviews feed. Apple only exposes the most recent reviews per country (up to about 500), so older reviews are not included.
Why only 100 reviews and one country?
That keeps the free tool instant. The competitor report covers up to 500 reviews in up to 10 countries per app.
Does it work for Google Play?
Not yet — App Store only for now.
Can I analyze a competitor's app?
Yes. Reviews are public, so you can analyze any app on the App Store.
Is the theme detection accurate?
It is a transparent keyword-and-phrase method, so it can miss sarcasm or unusual wording. Always read the example quotes before acting on a theme.
Privacy, in plain words
What we count, anonymously: which app and country were analyzed (and the app's category), which buttons and links were used (report button, CSV download, footer links), which website or link brought you here (for example dev.to), and — only if you answer — your role and use case in the report form. Why: to learn who finds this useful and what to build next.
What we don't collect: no cookies, no IP addresses, no device tracking, no review text. To stop abuse we keep a scrambled code that changes daily and is deleted after about two minutes.
Your email is stored only if you type it into the report form and tick the box. It is used once, to tell you when the report is ready, and never sold or shared. Stats and emails are stored on Cloudflare (our host). To have your email deleted, reply to the launch email.
